The lines on this piece of fabric were made using the Image Transfer technique and an old metal washboard I purchased at a yard sale. It was a bit expensive but I saw some rust had already developed on it and I loved the herringbone pattern the lines formed. 

To make the the fabric pictured below, I turned the fabric 90 degrees to get a second impression and create a woven plaid effect.
